Silver
Standard Poodles are a dilute of black. It also carries the fading
gene.
Silver Standard Poodle puppies
are born black and usually this clears by the age of 2, sometimes
with a Standard Poodle it may take a little longer to clear the body coat than a
toy or miniature Poodle as they are smaller in size.
Silver Standard Poodles should have a silver face and feet by the age of 6 weeks
to be a real silver, the rest of the coat will follow in suit over the next few
years.
It is from the face and feet that the silvering appears to move up into the
body. The longer part of the coat may be a black to dark grey to almost dark
brown until it clears and grows out.
There are varying shades of silver to sparkling platinum that is almost white to
a beautiful pewter colour.
