Silver Standard Poodles are a dilute of black. Silver Standard poodles also
carries the fading gene.
What makes this color fascinating is that Silver Standard Poodle puppies are
born black and gradually fade into a silver color.
Usually the coat clears by the age of 2, sometimes
with a Standard Poodle it may take a little longer
to completely clear the body coat than a toy or
miniature Poodle
Silver Standard Poodles should have a silver face
and feet by the age of 6 weeks to be a real silver,
the rest of the coat will follow in suit over the next
few years.
It is from the face and feet that the silvering appears
to move up into the body. The longer part of the coat
may be a black to dark grey to almost dark brown
until it clears and grows out.
There are varying shades of the silver coloring in
Standard Poodles, from sparkling platinum that is
almost white, to a beautiful pewter colour.
